Faith in Living
At First Church, we believe that our whole lives must be a life of faith. The Lord has said “the people of God shall live by faith: but if any man (or woman) draw away, my soul will have no pleasure in him.” Hebrews 10:38 (see also Habakkuk 2:4, Romans 1:17, Galatians 3:11).
We believe that we can live lives that please God by living faithfully to His Word. “But without faith it is impossible to please Him (God): for He that comes to God must first believe that he exists, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him” Hebrews 11:6. This is a wonderful promise of God that He will honor and reward our sincere and continued seeking Him out. Part of reward in seeking God out is the additional promise of overcoming our present world with victory “For whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world: and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith” I John 5:4.
We obtain more faith by being faithful to being in the hearing presence of someone speaking the Word of God that has been called to proclaim His life-changing message. “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God” Romans 10:17.
Faith in Worship
At First Church, we believe that worship is more than just a Sunday morning occurrence. Worship is a daily part of our lives. Worship is our response to God’s awesomeness in all that we do throughout our day. A great outline for God’s idea of worship is found in Psalm 95.
Verse 1 & 2 states – Come, let us sing to the LORD!
Let us give a joyous shout to the rock of our salvation!
Let us come before him with thanksgiving.
Let us sing him psalms of praise.
Now this is not just something that God wants us to experience at our weekly church services. This act of singing and shouting is a part of our regular worship to God.
Verse 3 through 5 states – For the LORD is a great God,
the great King above all gods.
He owns the depths of the earth,
and even the mightiest mountains are his.
The sea belongs to him, for he made it.
His hands formed the dry land, too.
God is “a great God.” He is worthy of our praise. All the earth and all that is in it belong to Him.
Verse 6 states – Come, let us worship and bow down.
Let us kneel before the LORD our maker,
We believe that the act of worship should be a regular part of our lives and in all that we do. As we drive our cars, as we work at our desk, as we tuck our kids in to bed. Our lives should be full of worship.
There are many areas (more than this page allows) of our lives where we can grow in our faith and faithfulness to God. We invite you to join us in hearing the Word, studying the Word, and living the Word, as you grow in your faith.
